“Volvo Google Built-in”.
That may not sound like much, but this latest multimedia tech from Volvo and Google is some of the most robust and revolutionary tech we’ve seen in the infotainment world in many years.
While we’ve known about pairing Bluetooth for years and, more recently, turning your Volvo’s infotainment screen into a facsimile of your Apple or Android device, Google Built-in takes all of that to the next level.
With nothing more than a phone in your pocket and some basic login information, your Volvo can provide access to all the Google services you know and love, and they can be accessed either by touchscreen or “Hey Google” voice activation. You can call up navigation instructions just by asking your Google Assistant to take you to an address and further than that, Google will automatically display your destination’s hours of operation and Google Star rating as soon as the destination is confirmed.
More than just telling your where to go, your Google Assistant can access your Google Calendar if you ask it to and will read you your tasks for the day so you’ll always know you haven’t forgotten about an important meeting or appointment. You can also have Google read you the latest news headlines or even tell you the day’s weather report.
In addition to all the advanced apps that can be accessed, voice commands can take care of the more practical everyday in-car tasks as well. You can have your Google Assistant lower the on-board temperature, turn on your seat warmers or window defrost.
Not only can it modify your in-car temperature, but it can also access your smarthome apps to make sure than once you pull up, the temperature in your home will be the same as that in your car, making for the seamless integration of your Volvo into your lifestyle.
